I am sorry for how I reacted about the restrictions on the greenhouse. I have never been in the greenhouse, and assumed it was...smaller.

Please let me explain my reaction, and perhaps you will understand. My inmate is a goddess of the Greek pantheon. She is that Persephone; she spends much of her year in a place where nothing grows, with a man who doesn't love her. The greenhouse is special to her, so I fought for her.

Plants are important to her, like children. She knows them all by name, as you would know each of your children. Even if she is kept locked away from a small part of the greenhouse, she will feel it as keenly as if you have taken her child from her.

It isn't right to take away something she loves when she has done nothing wrong. She is not an inmate to break away from her love of plants. She is an inmate because she hates mortals, and if a mortal stands between her and something she loves, it will do nothing for her redemption.

Let her help you in the greenhouses. If you do not want to be alone with her, I will come, too. I am really a very nice person once you get to know me.

I would like Persephone to have access to the CES whenever she wants. It is her reward for interacting with mortals.

I am sorry for what happened. Charlie, so far as I know, was simply trying to get that one area cleaned up quickly. Tis clean now, and frankly, I have no idea where he's gone since then. No one has seen him.

I'm talking to Persephone about what she's seen or done around the gardens the last few days. I may need to appeal to Mme. Owens to get keys duplicated again. If... he's gone and she doesn't want the job, I'll take the supervision back. I was trying to avoid a clash of philosophies in the running of the gardens, but there was trouble anyway from a different front. So much for preventive measures.

It may be a good idea to give a key to Persephone for her own use. What do you think? I cannot imagine her wanting her babies killed for some plot by another inmate, so I don't think her having freedom with the dangerous plants would be a problem, but she may have to agree to be vigilant about the heavier equipment in the shed so that none of it gets into the hands of disgruntled inmates.

I think the wizard plants like her. They don't bite as much when she's around. Frankly, I don't think she should ever have been made an inmate in the first place, but it wasn't my choice. The Admiral can be unreasonably strict sometimes. At least as often as he is inexplicably lax or uncaring.

I think allowing her to have free reign in the greenhouse is a good idea. It is a sense of control that she doesn't have anymore.

If a warden needs to be there, I can help you. I don't do anything except sit in the common room and whistle at pretty girls, anyway. I'm not very good with plants, though. Persephone gave me Heartsease and I have already killed it.

I think we're agreed then.

Now to find the key or keys that are still on board.

How is your inmate? We're friends, and I have been very worried about him.

He is recovering his wits and sense of calm. We had a good talk the other day. I think that we're going out to brave the elements together at this port. If you wish to talk to him anytime, feel free. I'm hoping he'll expand his circle of friends and people he trusts. It takes time, I understand, to learn to trust when one feels betrayed by all.

He was thinking of jumping over the side. I talked to him then.

I don't know that I helped him, Armand.

I don't know if he could have been helped at the time. He ended up hiding away, and that seems to have given him some perspective.

You should be in charge of the gardens, Levi-Biff. I would not use the locked tools to hurt anyone, and then you could give me a key.

Armand is thinking of allowing you to have a key of your own, and I have offered to come sit in the gardens and help. Even though I'm terrible with plants. What do you think of that?
